The darkness envelopes me inside it's blanket,
my ears searching for the slightest of sounds, the beating of my heart like a drum inside a cage
I seek slumber with a hope of ease...
yet I know .deep inside it's not to be.
The hours flow by, I wait for that deep and distant cry
the pounding fists upon my door
the chains that drag me along the floor
I rise up from this hardened stone
and pace these walls of hollow bone.
A sound I hear, a familiar sound
the belting fists that make the rounds...
they bustle in and as I fight,
they drag me out into the night.
Caked mud dries in my hair,
I seek the crowd to see you there
I whisper words upon the wind
don't you know this is the greatest sin.
I wish to share my words with you,
of life and health and futures true,
yet here you are about to torture me so,
and throw me into the darkened pit below.
As you pile the last red brick,
upon my grave you gently sit,
you buried me alive as I whispered my needy curses
and they will come back to haunt you these old and magical verses.
